For us as a church to accomplish the mission God has given us, it requires commitment from each of us. Allow God to expand your giving beyond the tithe whether it’s through giving sacrificially or giving from great abundance. If this is your first time giving, or if you’re looking to give beyond what you’ve done before, here are some ways to develop the gift of generosity beyond your tithe!
First, make a plan to give. Maybe your plan involves being faithful and consistent with your giving, or choosing to sacrifice something in your personal spending for the sake of His Kingdom. Your plan could involve scheduling recurring gifts online, setting up ACH withdrawal, bringing cash or check to services, or giving through the Emmanuel app. When you have plans and are diligent, it leads to plenty (Proverbs 21:15). Whatever the amount is- have the plan in place and be obedient with it. Start there.
Next, ask God to give you a vision for what He wants to do through you. This is beyond what you can do in your planned income. This requires you to take a step of faith. Habakkuk 2:2 tells us to write the vision down and pray about it! God will supply all your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). He will give you creative ways to fulfill that dream. Stepping out in faith pleases God. When you remember that everything comes from the Lord, it is easy to give cheerfully for His kingdom!
Always remember every gift matters to God. It’s not the size of the gift, but the obedience to and trust in God’s voice that matters most. Plan to give and ask God to give you a vision for what he wants to do through your generosity. Our prayer is that every person at Emmanuel will be able to say, “I am a Kingdom Builder.” To see ourselves as Kingdom Builders is to have an expanded heart and vision that is willing to fuel God’s mission!
